OVER the past 40 years, Agromate Holdings Sdn Bhd (AHSB) has positioned itself as one of the top integrated fertiliser manufacturer and distributor in the country.
AHSB hosted its 40th anniversary gala dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, which was attended by more than 1,000 guests, including business partners, suppliers and clients from 25 countries.
AHSB chief executive officer Edward Tang said the company, founded by his father Raymond Tang, spent years building up the business and its reputation for dependability in Malaysia.
“The company started with only six employees and has now grown to more than 200 employees and its successes would not have been possible without the diligence and perseverance of our staff.
“The first Agromate office opened in 1979 and we have hit several milestones since then, ” he said, adding that this led to the development of AHSB and its many subsidiaries.
Edward also said that the company relied on four pillars — ambition, sustainability, teamwork and trust — to steer it towards success.
Today, the group supplies an estimated 25% of all the fertilisers used in Malaysia.
To become a one-stop fertiliser manufacturer and distributor, the group set up or acquired other businesses over the years, starting with Agromate (M) Sdn Bhd (AMSB) to serve the large plantation segment to Fertitrade (M) Sdn Bhd which was acquired to supply to the oil-palm smallholders and cash-crop farmers.
He said the company was ready to move to the next level and play a bigger role in the industry.
“We already have presence in South Africa and to strengthen our position there, we will set up an office there in January 2020 to be involved in trading and distribution, ” Edward said.
During the gala dinner, long-service employees were honoured with appreciation awards.
The evening continued with a host of performances, including appearances by singing sensation Urban Tribes, sand artist Bernice Wong and magician Michael Chang.
